Alrighty, folks. So as a reminder, about a monthish ago I snuck* into a state Republican legislative update. If you tuned in to the first part of this 2-parter (and oh, you want to, if only for all the tea and the sheer bewildering down-the-rabbit holeness of it all), you’ll know that the legislators really didn’t touch on the most impactful state legislation to come out of this session. So to help we asked State Senator Rodney Pol to fill in the gaps.
And boy, does he ever! During our chat, Rodney and I dissect:
How, contrary to Representative X’s opinion, indeed, the tollway bill makes it much easier to turn I-94 into tollway, and…
What her support for the university voting ID bill and other university legislation reflect. Spoiler alert: it’s not a deep and abiding concern about rampant campus voting fraud.
What the property tax bill is really all about (nothing good, folks).
Medicaid cuts and work requirements and what that means for Hoosiers (again, nothing good. Sensing a pattern here?)
And if you stick around all the way to the end, you’ll get an lovely object lesson in why YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS. Some of Rodney’s ideas for the next session are so great I wish I was a legislator so I could vote for them! (Food stamps at the Farmer’s Markets, tollway vouchers a’la school choice vouchers, you’ll have to listen in for the rest). Bonus points if you can figure out where one of us secretly got attacked by a swarm of cicadas (we could NOT figure out what that noise was).
If you want to check in with Rodney, you can find him here.
*(it was a public event, I really didn’t have to sneak but I also wasn’t broadcasting ‘hey, I’m a Democrat there)
